Our guide to Newport, Isle of Wight by our Isle of Wight local expert - Newport is the county town and centrally located. With a population of around 24,000, Newport is one of our largest towns. There are signs of Roman settlement in the area, and the Newport Roman Villa is now open to the public. The town is home to the Isle of Wight Council, the main cinema complex and the main bus station. It's the 'hub' for many local businesses. The River Medina runs all the way down to Newport, ending at the Quay. Quay Arts is worth a visit, exhibiting some fine island talent. Neighbouring Newport is the village of Carisbrooke, the home to Carisbrooke Castle.

Our guide to Seaview, Isle of Wight by our Isle of Wight local expert - Further up the coastline are the villages of Seaview and Nettlestone. This is a lovely corner of the island, with welcoming pubs and fantastic views over the Solent towards Portsmouth from Seaview. Nettlestone is a little inland and is more residential. Within the area, there are some great pubs, restaurants, bakeries and gift shops. Seaview has a long pebble beach and slipway for lauching dinghys. Accommodation for tourists is usually of a high standard and although a wonderful place to stay, it is one of the quieter tourist areas due to being less well-known than the larger towns. Seaview is very popular for dinghy sailing and watersports.
